Point of Origin, a solo exhibition by Lauren Brinson, will be on display at the Tina Dolter Gallery from August 10th to September 4th. Join us on August 10th from 5:00 – 6:30 for the Opening Reception!

Point of Origin is the product of eight months of creation in Studio #5 of the Rotary Arts Center. From November 2017 to June 2018, my work has spanned from printmaking, to painting, to textiles, and sculptures. My inspirations ranged from the history of rug hooking to the material process of printmaking, the histories of found objects to figurative language, all reflecting on the influence of time, place, and perspective. Many of the works in this exhibition are disparate in concept and material, but the tying factor is their point of origin. Nearly every piece was conceived, if not entirely made in Studio #5, and each piece had significant impact on my life in the past nine months.

Lauren Brinson is an interdisciplinary artist born and raised in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. She completed her BFA in Visual Arts from Grenfell Campus in 2017 and will begin working towards her MFA in Visual Arts at the University of Victoria this fall. Her piece Small Talk was the BMO 1st! Art award regional winner in 2017 and was displayed in Toronto in November 2018. Her current work considers the language of everyday objects and images through how they are interacted with physically and psychologically, and how perceptions of worth can be manipulated within the dialogue between found objects and fine art.
